I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in history at Sacred Heart University. In spring 2016, I completed a dissertation on Union bond markets during the American Civil War. I'm interested in the war "as sold" by Union financiers and the hundreds of thousands of everyday citizens who purchased these acts of confidence in the Union. The purchases spanned the entire North, portions of the West, and even segments of the Confederacy. Additionally, these bonds were purchased to a significant degree throughout Western Europe and to lesser degrees in the Caribbean, South America, North Africa, and the Far East.
